Madonna Drops Record Label
Material girl follows Radiohead and NIN
October 11, 2007

Wow, the record industry must be shaking in its knees. First Radiohead ditched its record label, then Nine Inch Nails then reportedly Oasis and Jamiroquai did the same, now Madonna has reportedly joined in.

According to reports Madonna has dumped her record label and signed a $120 million deal with concert promotion firm Live Nation. Under the deal Live Nation would distribute three studio albums, promote concert tours, sell merchandise and license Madonna’s name.

With major artist like NIN, Radiohead, Oasis and now Madonna dumping their labels it may be a clear sign to major labels to change their ways. Hopefully in the coming months we will see a number of major artist go at it alone, without a record contract.
